Please reach us at riva@touronorion.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.
The boating season in Michigan largely depends on the weather. Typically, June, July, and August offer the best conditions with ample daylight for evening tours. However, Michigan's unpredictable climate can sometimes surprise us with 80-degree days in April, and September.
Please note that restroom facilities at Greens Park may not be available before Memorial Day or after Labor Day. Despite this, Riva's pontoon is usually the first boat on the water and the last to come out of the lake each season. So if summer strikes early and you can gather a last-minute group, don't hesitate to reach out.
Riva does not typically call off a tour for a patchy radar. In the case of extreme weather (if thunder, lightening or heavy winds are present) the captain reserves the right to call off the tour. We will decide an hour before and reschedule your tour for another day. Any tour called off due to weather, will receive a raincheck (credit) good for the current boating season. Sorry no refunds are offered for rained out tours. Thank you for your understanding.
Reservations are non-refundable and non-interchangeable. Being that it is such a short boating season, we need plenty of notice to know what our available dates are.
Riva will be offering open seated tours on Friday evenings, as well as late mornings on Saturdays and Sundays. The specific dates for these tours will be determined upon requests.
These tours are designed to cater to couples and small groups who may not have enough people to fill the whole boat. To stay updated on when these special tours will be offered, please subscribe to our mailing list. If you already have a group together, you can also inquire about these days for a private tour.
Please subscribe to the captains mailing list on the contract page where it says "Subscribe". Riva will host an open seating tour periodically for singles and couples. If you are passing through town please reach out via email. She might be able to throw something together. Also good to follow "Tour on Orion" on Facebook for last minute openings, and fun posts about the past.
Yes, but with great power comes great responsibility. Just take it easy, there are no pit stops or bathroom onboard. No, you can't pee off the boat... we will return to the dock in about 90 minutes. All alcohol must stay contained in coolers until onboard the boat. This means no alcohol is allowed to be consumed in Greens Park. Small coolers will be transported by a cart provided by Riva. Once you are onboard you can fix yourself a drink, sit back and relax.
This 25' tri-toon is rated for 14 people. If you want to be cozy you can have 13, its just an extra $25 for the extra person. If you have 13+ talk to Riva about hosting a larger group and she will coordinate a dueling tour with the Pedal Boat Pub with enough advance notice. The pedal boat seats up to 16 people. 16 people can pedal on the party barge, and 12-13 can lounge with Riva for a historical tour or charter. Both groups will leave together and travel alongside each other. Please make arrangements as far in advance as possible to make sure your group can be accommodated.
Absolutely! There will be an intermission from viewing the storybooks which is the perfect time for snacks and enjoying the views.
Sorry pontoons don't have restrooms unfortunately but thankfully the tour isn't too long (only 90 minutes). You are welcome to use the restrooms at Green's Park when we return to the dock.
Depending on your location, this could be feasible. Riva’s storybooks do correspond with a timed route around the lake starting from the Main Landing (Green's Park). So keep in mind a pick-up and drop-off will add time to your ride but should not be an issue.
The tour pontoon goes thru several state inspections, and is specifically equipped for commercial charters. For safety and insurance reasons, tours can only be given from Riva's vessel.
Contact Riva to check her time travel schedule. She may be able to make a special arrangement, especially if there's an old timer in town! Get in touch with us, and we'll do our best to accommodate your request.
Booking a Private Charter may be available upon request, feel free to send your captain an email with the date, and time you are looking for.
Contact Riva to inquire about a "3 Hour Tour" option.
Don't miss the boat... literally. We can't hold the boat for you if you're late, sorry. There's a schedule to keep and we want everyone to have a good time.
Typically this is an adults only ride. But if you have some teenagers (13+) that are they are genuinely interested in Lake Orion History… then please bring them along. In some cases they are the best listeners! Same goes for Private Charters.
Just tell the gate guard you are on Tour with Riva! Your Captain takes care of park fees.
